St. Maarten: Four Days of Serious Fun

The St. Maarten Heineken Regatta returns from 4–7 March 2027 for its 47th edition, bringing sailors from around the world to the crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean. Organised by the Sint Maarten Yacht Club, the event combines four days of racing with the celebrated Serious Fun atmosphere ashore. Courses are adapted to a diverse fleet, from Maxis, performance multihulls and competitive monohulls to chartered bareboats and cruising yachts. With coastal and windward-leeward racing, northeast trade winds and an international fleet based around Simpson Bay, the Heineken Regatta offers both experienced racers and charter crews an opportunity to compete in one of the Caribbean’s major sailing events.

Why race the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta?

Four days of world-class Caribbean racing
The St. Maarten Heineken Regatta delivers four consecutive days of competition in Caribbean conditions. Race committees tailor courses to the different classes, combining coastal racing with windward-leeward formats. Crystal-clear water and the northeast trade winds create an exceptional sailing environment for crews looking to combine competitive racing with the atmosphere of St. Maarten.

A regatta open to a diverse fleet
One of the event’s defining characteristics is the variety of yachts and sailors taking part. Professional teams race Maxis, performance multihulls and competitive monohulls alongside holiday-makers aboard chartered bareboats and cruising sailors. Different courses and classes allow a broad range of yachts to participate while maintaining competitive racing across the fleet.

An international Caribbean sailing event
Since the original St. Maarten Regatta began in 1980, the event has developed into one of the best-known fixtures on the Caribbean sailing calendar. Sailors travel from around the world to compete, bringing professional teams, amateur crews and charter guests together around Simpson Bay for four days of racing and a shared passion for sailing.

The legendary Serious Fun atmosphere
The racing is only one part of the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta experience. Once crews return ashore, the event continues with prize givings, live entertainment and the Regatta Village. This combination of competitive sailing and Caribbean celebrations has become central to the event’s identity and its famous Serious Fun motto.
