Designed by Nestor Volker, with naval architecture by Nestor Volker and Ricardo Marcelo Rinaldi, KAT is a 23.96m Custom Expedition Ketch Rigged Sloop built in 2014 in Itajaí, Brazil. Her steel hull and stainless-steel superstructure make her a robust expedition yacht, continuously maintained since her construction. Her hydraulic lifting keel, designed by Horácio Carabell, reduces her draft from 5.20m to 2.20m. With a range of up to 2,800 nautical miles under power, 3,200 litres of fresh water and a 200 l/h watermaker, she is built for long passages. BGYB now handles her sale as Central Agent.
An expedition sailing yacht for sale after two circumnavigations
KAT has completed two circumnavigations: the Expedição Oriente from 2014 to 2016, followed by the Voice of the Oceans programme from 2021 to 2025. She has also sailed to Patagonia, South Georgia and Cape Horn, with the same captain and crew throughout.
A lifting keel for shallow waters
Her hydraulic lifting keel reduces her draft from 5.20m to 2.20m. This expedition ketch can therefore move from offshore passages to shallower waters, whether at anchor or cruising along the coast.
Long-range autonomy for bluewater cruising
Solar panels, hydro generators and wind generators add to her onboard power, while an extensive stock of spare parts allows long passages without relying on a port. Full thermal insulation makes KAT equally suited to tropical and sub-polar climates.
Major refits in 2021 and 2024
In 2021, a major refit prepared KAT for the Voice of the Oceans programme, including two new Volvo Penta engines. In 2024, she spent 90 days ashore in New Zealand for a further extensive refit. Since 2014, she has followed a continuous preventive maintenance programme.
Four cabins and a generous cockpit for life aboard
KAT accommodates 10 guests in 4 cabins, with a crew of 4. The saloon is arranged in two areas, including a large dining table for 10, and the twin-helm cockpit seats more than 15 people around its two folding tables.
