ASAHI (ex-OCEAN'S SEVEN²) is an elegant 31.80-metre aluminium sailing yacht built in 1998 by the French shipyard Trehard, to a design by naval architect Jacques Fauroux. Originally created for an experienced yachtsman and professionally maintained from the outset, this sleek sloop was conceived to combine impressive sailing performance with the comfort and versatility required for extended cruising. Her capabilities are demonstrated by recorded speeds of 15 knots reaching and up to 23 knots surfing downwind, highlighting her exceptional potential under sail.
One of ASAHI's most distinctive features is the remarkable flexibility of her accommodation. She welcomes up to 8 guests in 4 en-suite cabins, each of which can be configured with either twin beds or a generous king-size bed measuring approximately two metres in length. The two forward cabins can also be combined to create an expansive owner's suite, featuring a central king-size bed, two comfortable seating areas and separate his-and-hers bathrooms. This adaptable arrangement offers considerable freedom to accommodate different guest requirements. Located aft, the crew quarters include a spacious captain's cabin with a queen-size bed and private bathroom, alongside two additional cabins, one double and one twin.
ASAHI's bright and welcoming interior features elegant light birch woodwork, complemented by carefully selected fabrics and furnishings. The main saloon offers a dining area for eight guests, a comfortable lounge and entertainment facilities, creating an inviting atmosphere for life on board. Air conditioning throughout, upgraded LED lighting and wool carpets installed in 2019 further enhance guest comfort. The fully renovated galley, featuring marble and briar-root finishes, also benefits from modern appliances and equipment installed during the 2019 refit.
On deck, ASAHI combines generous outdoor living spaces with a refined and uncluttered profile. Her expansive central cockpit is dedicated to relaxation and open-air dining, with a large table accommodating 10 to 12 guests. By separating this social area from the sail-handling equipment, guests can enjoy the surroundings without interfering with sailing operations. Further aft, the dedicated helm cockpit brings together the winches and sailing controls, with direct access to the crew accommodation below. Sunbathing cushions can be arranged on the coachroof, while wide transom steps provide convenient access to the water and tender.
ASAHI is equipped with carbon-fibre spars by Espace Composite, an Incidence sail wardrobe and hydraulic sail-handling systems. Throughout her ownership history, she has benefited from continuous attention and progressive technical improvements, with numerous systems renewed since 2010. A major refit carried out in 2019/2020 included the installation of a new 380 HP Cummins engine, new Kohler and Onan generators, two new watermakers, replacement standing rigging and comprehensive upgrades to the electrical, navigation and entertainment systems. The interior spaces, furnishings and onboard amenities were also extensively renewed. Further maintenance was completed in 2022, including a shipyard period in Genoa for new antifouling and anodes. Combining proven sailing performance, adaptable accommodation and an extensive history of upgrades, ASAHI offers an appealing balance of performance and cruising comfort.
